Fair Trade is a global movement that ensures better prices, decent working conditions, and fair terms of trade for farmers and workers in the developing world. For cotton, it means producers are empowered with fair pay, safer workplaces, and support to invest in their communities and sustainable practices. Our cotton supplier is certified under Fairtrade International (FLO) and complies with the Fairtrade Trader Standard and the Fairtrade Standard for Fibre Crops.

Fair Prices and Long-Term Partnerships

The Fairtrade Trader Standard requires buyers to pay producers a minimum price that covers the cost of sustainable production — even when market prices fall. It also ensures contracts are fair, transparent, and encourage long-term relationships that benefit both suppliers and brands.

Safe Working Conditions and Worker Rights

Fair Trade prohibits exploitative labour practices, including forced or child labour. It mandates safe working environments, access to protective equipment, and the right for workers to organise. Suppliers must also provide transparent wage structures and fair grievance procedures.

Fairtrade Premiums for Community Investment

A portion of every Fair Trade purchase goes into a premium fund, managed by the workers themselves. These funds must be used for projects that benefit the wider community — like improving local schools, clinics, housing, or workplace facilities.

Environmental Protection and Organic Cotton

While Fair Trade certification doesn't require organic farming, it strongly encourages sustainable agriculture and limits harmful chemicals. Our supplier has gone above and beyond — they’re also GOTS certified, meaning their cotton is grown without pesticides or GMOs and processed to the highest organic standards. This dual certification supports both worker wellbeing and environmental responsibility.

Fair Trade FAQ's

Is Fair Trade the same as organic?

Not quite. Fair Trade focuses on social and economic fairness — like wages, worker rights, and safe conditions. However, our Fair Trade certified cotton is also GOTS certified organic, so it meets the highest standards for both ethical trade and organic farming.

How do Fair Trade premiums work?

A portion of the price we pay for certified cotton goes into a community development fund managed by the workers themselves. They choose how to invest it — whether in healthcare, education, housing, or other needs.

Why aren't all your products Fair Trade certified?

We work with a variety of suppliers, many of whom already hold other ethical certifications like GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard). In this case, only our primary cotton supplier is Fair Trade certified, but all of our suppliers are carefully chosen for their sustainability and worker welfare practices.

Is this certification third-party verified?

Yes — our supplier is independently audited by FLOCERT, the official certifier for Fairtrade International. This ensures strict compliance with ethical standards.

Can I see the certificates?

Yes — we’re all about transparency. You can use the official Fair Trade search and type in our supplier's certification number to check that they're valid.
