Woolmark is one of the world’s most respected textile certifications, recognised globally for quality, performance, and fibre integrity. At Babu, every merino garment we make carries the Woolmark symbol — a mark of trust backed by independent testing.

A globally trusted symbol of quality

The Woolmark logo isn’t just a design — it’s a promise. Recognised in over 100 countries, it certifies that a product meets the highest standards for pure wool quality, durability, and performance. Only licensed manufacturers who meet Woolmark’s strict testing criteria can use the mark.

Tested for softness, strength, and wear

To qualify for certification, every garment must pass rigorous lab tests for shrinkage, pilling, colourfastness, and more. This ensures our wool garments don’t just feel soft and luxurious — they’re made to last through real life with babies and children.

Extra-fine softness, certified

Our base layer merino clothing is certified under Woolmark’s Extrafine category, which requires fibre diameters below 19.75 microns. Made from 100% pure new wool with no synthetic fibres or blends, our 18.5-micron merino is over three times finer than a human hair — giving it an incredibly soft, non-scratchy feel, even on delicate newborn skin.

Sourced from Australian farms, made with care

All our certified merino is sourced from Australian woolgrowers who meet Woolmark’s fibre requirements and animal welfare commitments. From farm to final stitch, Woolmark ensures every step of the process meets global benchmarks for quality and traceability.

Woolmark FAQ's

Is all your merino Woolmark certified?

Yes — all of our current merino garments are Woolmark certified. Any fleece merino items are Woolmark rich wool blend certified.

Is your wool ethically sourced?

Yes. While this page is focused on Woolmark certification, our supplier is also certified under the Responsible Wool Standard (RWS), which covers animal welfare and sustainable land management. We’ll have a separate page coming soon about RWS.

What does the Woolmark logo mean?

The Woolmark logo signifies that the product has passed independent laboratory testing for fibre content, performance, and quality — from shrink resistance to colour fastness and pilling.

Is your merino okay for premature babies?

Yes — merino is an excellent choice for premature and newborn babies. Our certified 100% merino base layers are made from ultra-fine fibres (18.5 microns), which are significantly softer than standard wool. This makes them gentle enough for the most delicate skin. Merino also naturally helps regulate body temperature, keeping premature babies warm without overheating, and it’s breathable, hypoallergenic, and free from synthetic fibres — making it a trusted option for sensitive little ones.

How can I tell which products are Woolmark certified?

Every merino item is Woolmark certified. You'll see the logo on all merino product pages and on the garments themselves.

Can I see the certificates?

Yes — we’re all about transparency. You can use the official Woolmark certification check and type in our supplier's certification number (L0770CH96W) to check that they're valid.
