FAQ

Website and Order Queries

Do you have a physical store?

We do not have a physical store, our office and warehouse is located in Auckland New Zealand and we offer click and collect only at this location.

For stores that stock Babu, see our stockists page

How do I log into my account?

Logging into your account allows you to view all your orders and submit return or exchange requests

Click the account icon or go here

Then just enter the email that you have used to place your order(s)

Our accounts no longer have passwords, each time you log in, you will receive a one-time code to your email. Enter the code from your email and you will be logged in

If your orders aren't showing up, you may have used a different email address when checking out, we are here to help if you are having trouble logging in

I would like to send my purchase as a gift, do you do gift wrapping?

Yes. We love making your gifts special! We have two options available for gifting: gift boxes or gift wrap.

In the cart view, you will see 'add gift wrapping' underneath your product. Select this and you will see options for gift wrap, including an area to write a gift message which we will hand write on a card and include with your gift.

You only need to purchase gift wrap once per order. If you would only like us to wrap certain items, please indicate this in your order notes, otherwise we will wrap everything together.

We won't include the packing slip with gift orders unless you indicate you would like us to in the order notes.

Do you keep my personal details on record?

Your address and contact details will be saved with your order. However we do not store any credit card details or share our sales information with any other party.

I forgot to enter my discount code, can I get a refund?

We are unable to refund the difference if you forget to enter a discount code at checkout. Please ensure that your discount code is applied before you finalise your order.

My prices are showing a different currency?

If prices are showing in a different currency to where you are located this is likely due to use of a VPN. To ensure you are viewing products in your preferred currency, click on the currency shown at the top of your screen and select the currency you would like the products to appear in.

Some of our customers who use a VPN will have their account automatically default to $US currency, this is because our website uses your IP address to determine which currency to default to, and a masked IP address often will show as a US location.

Shipping

What are your shipping policies?

You can see our full shipping policy here

Refer to the below FAQ's for quick answers to commonly asked questions

What do you charge for shipping?

Our NZ shipping starts from $6.50. Prices are flat rates based on your location, no matter the size of the order.

We offer free shipping on NZ orders over $150

Delivery to Australia is a flat rate of $15.00.

For orders outside of New Zealand and Australia, our flat shipping rate is now $50.00 NZD. Unfortunately, international courier fees have risen significantly in recent years, and most of the time it costs us $50–$100 NZD to send parcels overseas. We’ve kept our rate as low as possible and will continue to review it if costs change.

For information on US delivery, please refer to the question below.

Please check the quote at checkout for an accurate price. If you require more information please email us at info@babu.co.nz

Do you offer click and collect?

If you’re based in Auckland, you’re welcome to pick up your order directly from our warehouse in Glen Eden.

Address for pick up: Unit 3/2 Westech Place, Glen Eden, Auckland

Just select Click & Collect at checkout, and we’ll email you when your order is ready. Pick-up is available Monday–Friday 10am-4pm.

In the case that the warehouse is closed, we will contact you to let you know click and collect is unavailable that day.

Do you ship overseas?

Yes! We ship worldwide, see below for more information.

Update: For shipping to the US, this is now affected by global tariffs and import restrictions, please see the question on US orders for more information.

Do you ship to the United States?

At the moment, due to tariffs and import restrictions, we’re unable to send orders directly to the US. Shipping prices are currently upwards of $150NZD. We’re really sorry for the inconvenience and will update this page as soon as shipping becomes available again. If you’ve already placed an order with a US delivery address, our team will be in touch to arrange a cancellation and refund.

If you would like to place a large order or are okay with paying a high shipping rate, get in touch with us at info@babu.co.nz

How do customs and tariffs work?

International orders may be subject to import duties, tariffs, or taxes levied by your country's authorities.

It is the responsibility of the customer to research and pay any import duties, tariffs, or taxes charged by their country’s customs authority before placing an order. These fees are not included in the product or shipping costs charged by Babu.

If a customer refuses to pay these fees upon delivery and the parcel is returned to us, we may issue a refund for the goods only, less the original shipping cost. Refunds will only be processed once the returned goods have been received by Babu, inspected, and confirmed to be in new and undamaged condition.

How do I get free shipping?

Free shipping is available for NZ orders over $150. Select the "Free Shipping" option at checkout to apply this promotion.

When will I receive my order?

New Zealand Delivery

We are pleased to partner with NZ Post for our shipping services. All New Zealand packages are sent with overnight delivery, with most arriving next day, but please allow 1-3 working days for your order to arrive. If you live in a rural area, delivery may take longer.

International Delivery

For Australian orders, we use NZ Couriers International, which typically takes 2-7 working days.

For other international orders, we use various international carriers and shipping times will vary. Please allow 5-15 working days for delivery.

Note: Delays due to customs clearance or internal service are not accounted for. International orders may be subject to import duties or taxes levied by the authorities in your country. These duties, taxes or charges are payable by the receiver.

Deliveries to rural areas may take longer.

If you’d prefer a refund or store credit for a missed, incorrect, or faulty item, we may retrieve the item from you and provide the refund/credit. In the case of a refund, the funds will be credited back to the original payment method used for the purchase.

How do I wash & care for my Babu items?

Caring for your Babu items is simple, but important to get right! Please refer to the washing and care instructions found on the tags of your items.

We also have a merino wash and care guide here

Where do you make your products?

We source all our materials from top-quality suppliers, including merino wool from New Zealand and Australia and 100% organic cotton from India. Every product is designed in New Zealand and manufactured in India, China, Vietnam, or New Zealand, adhering to the highest standards of employment and safety. We only partner with the best available, utilising state-of-the-art equipment and highly trained and cared-for staff.

For more information on our suppliers and certifications, see our certifications page

Where do you get your merino wool from?

Our merino wool is sourced from New Zealand and Australia.

For more information on our merino, view our merino story page

What micron and weight merino do you use?

Most of our clothing is extrafine 18.5 micron and 190gsm. It is super soft and can be used on premature babies.

Our sleeping bags are 2 layers of 220gsm 100% merino.

For each product, the micron and gsm is listed in the description.

For more information on our merino fabric, see our woolmark certification page.

Do you use organic cotton?

Yes. We strongly believe in Organic Cotton for babies and families, our organic cotton is GOTS and Fair-trade certified, you can learn more about these certifications here or read more about our organic cotton story here.

What is GOTS?

The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) is recognised as the world's leading processing standard for textiles made from organic fibres. It defines high-level environmental criteria along the entire organic textiles supply chain and requires compliance with social criteria as well. Buying GOTS you can be assured that you items have been made with environmental and social compliance.

Read more about our GOTS certification here

What is the difference between interlock cotton and single jersey?

Interlock is a much thicker fabric because it is two layers of single jersey knitted together, and ours has been double brushed which means it has one side that is fuzzy like a peach, making it extra soft. It is 220 – 240gsm. We love interlock cotton because it's much thicker, softer, and durable than regular jersey.

Where do you stock Babu?

Please see our stockists page for all stores that stock Babu. You can contact them directly to check what stock they carry or request them to stock the items you would like.

Fire Safety

Do you use fire retardants?

No, fire retardants are not used on Babu products. We comply with the very stringent NZ & Australian fire safety standards:

Product Safety Standard (Children’s Nightwear and Limited Daywear Having Reduced Fire Hazard) Regulations 2016 and  Safety Standard AS/NZS 1249:2014 (Children's Nightwear and Limited Daywear having Reduced Fire Hazard).

Safe Sleep

Every year too many babies die suddenly in their sleep. Our statistics in NZ are particularly high. For advice and further resources on safe sleep, please refer to the Ministry of Health's website.

What is a tog rating?

A tog measurement is a European warmth rating: the higher the tog, the warmer the product.

The Tog rating describes the warmth or 'thermal resistance' of a product and is widely used in the UK to explain warmth levels of duvets and sleeping bags made from man-made materials.

Why don’t Babu Merino sleeping bags have a tog rating?

Because Babu Sleeping Bags are made from 100% natural fibres, they breathe and help regulate your baby’s temperature, they do not require a Tog Rating.

What should my baby wear with a merino sleeping bag?

The ideal room temperature for a baby is between 16-20ºC or 60-68°F. Our Babu™ sleeping bag is perfect wearing for autumn, winter and spring temperatures. It does not carry a tog rating, as it is a natural, breathable fibre, but the above chart will help you decide how to dress your child for the room temperature.

22-24°C (71.6-75°F) Short sleeve bodysuit

20-22°C (68-71.6°F) Long sleeve bodysuit

18-20°C (64.4-68°F) Long sleeve bodysuit & leggings
